Quarterly Dividend Set at 1,155 Won a Share, Record Date 7 August

KB's board declared its regular quarterly cash dividend at 1,155 won per common share, with a record date of 7 August 2026. The 405.5bn won total is calculated on 351,106,111 shares, and the filing warns that the aggregate will change because the buyback resolved the same day keeps retiring shares up to the record date. The per-share amount is fixed; the total is an estimate. The 0.7% figure in the filing is a Korean disclosure convention — the dividend divided by the average close over the week before the resolution, for this quarter alone. It is not an annual yield. Annualising the 1,155 won rate against the 166,600 won close gives roughly 2.77% before tax. For a US holder of the NYSE ADR, Korea withholds on that at a treaty-capped 15%, leaving about 2.36%. The buyback declared alongside it carries no such withholding.

A Korean dividend arrives as two filings: the board's cash-dividend decision (amount, record date, payment date) and, for year-end dividends, a shareholder-register closing notice.

How Korean dividends work

  • Record date and amount. Traditionally the record date was the fiscal year-end (December 31) and the amount was only set at the board meeting and AGM in February–March, so investors bought before knowing the payout. Under the 2023 procedure reform, companies that amended their articles now fix the amount first and set the record date afterwards; many large caps have adopted this, others still use the year-end date.
  • Ex-dividend. KRX settles T+2, so a share goes ex-dividend one business day before the record date. Year-end dividends are paid within a month of the AGM that approves them, typically April.
  • Interim and quarterly dividends need a provision in the articles; a minority of large companies pay quarterly, most pay once a year.
  • Withholding tax. Korea withholds 22% (20% plus local tax) from non-resident holders by default; the Korea–US treaty lowers it to 15% (10% for a corporate holder of at least 10%), subject to your broker filing the treaty paperwork. Residents pay 15.4%.
  • Preferred shares (“우선주”) usually carry a slightly higher per-share dividend than common shares and no vote.
