LG Display Nanjing is transferring its automotive display LCD module business to Top Run Total Solution (Nanjing) for CNY 491.5m, about 104.1bn won at the 9 February exchange rate. The contract was signed on 9 February 2026; this filing extends the completion date from 30 July to 30 September after the two sides renegotiated. The price is based on an appraisal of the fixed assets at 31 December 2024 and the buyer's bid, with a further settlement of other assets and liabilities at closing, so the final figure may move. The stated purpose is to upgrade the business structure. In practice LG Display stops making these modules itself and outsources them. At 104.1bn won this is small — about 2.2% of market capitalisation — but it belongs to a pattern. LG Display has been funding itself by selling assets for three years, most consequentially the Guangzhou LCD plant that went to TCL CSOT for roughly 2.03tn won in March 2025 and produced the gain behind the company's first annual profit since 2021. The Nanjing subsidiary holds 3.19tn won of assets, 9.7% of the group's consolidated total.
LG Display makes the screens that go inside other companies' products. Its largest business is small and medium OLED panels for smartphones, where Apple is the dominant customer; alongside that it makes large OLED panels for televisions and monitors, and automotive displays. It does not sell a consumer product of its own. For a US investor the position is easiest to understand through the customer list rather than the technology. A meaningful share of revenue depends on Apple's iPhone cycle, which makes LG Display a component supplier with concentrated customer risk, in an industry where Chinese competitors backed by provincial governments have driven panel prices down for a decade. That combination produced years of losses. The strategic story since 2023 has been retreat from commodity LCD and concentration on OLED, funded partly by selling assets — most consequentially the Guangzhou LCD fabrication plant, which went to China's TCL CSOT. Whether that retreat has produced a business that earns money through a full cycle rather than only at the top of one is the open question. The company was incorporated in 1985, became LG.Philips LCD as a joint venture with Philips in 1999, and took its present name in 2008. It trades in New York as an ADR under the ticker LPL.
