Korean Report Records Full Import Dependence for Key Battery Minerals - report

Korea relied entirely on overseas supplies for lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese in 2024, Dailian reported Monday. The September 7 report cited the National Assembly Research Service's 2026 audit review of critical mineral supply chains.

Rare earth import dependence was also 100%, while graphite dependence ranged from 96.9% to 100% depending on the mineral type. This year's supply chain reinforcement budget totals ₩1.9319 trillion, up 8.1% from the previous year.

The budget includes ₩3.8 billion for critical mineral recycling. POSCO Future M Co., Ltd. (003670): The company's market capitalisation was ₩16.2 trillion at Monday's close.
