South Korea's Ministry of Employment and Labor ruled that unions can't force companies to negotiate bonuses tied to operating profit. The ruling directly addresses Samsung Electronics labor fights.
The ministry said such demands don't have to be part of collective bargaining. Employers can refuse to discuss them as required topics. The ruling also freed companies from negotiating on plant openings, business sales, and AI adoption as required topics.
Samsung Electronics reported FY2025 operating income of ₩11.5 trillion on revenue of ₩186.3 trillion. The company's June-quarter operating margin was 76.4% of pretax income. Wage deals at major employers often set patterns for smaller firms.
