Samsung Electronics files on executive stock awards hitting record 317 contracts in FY2025

Samsung Electronics filed a statement showing executive stock compensation reached 317 new share-grant agreements in FY2025, more than double the prior year, according to the Fair Trade Commission filing released Wednesday.

The company has shifted compensation away from cash toward equity, in line with broader Korean chaebol practice. The 317 stock grants approved last year followed 153 in FY2024, a 107% increase. The shift reflects pressure from governance advocates to tie executive pay to long-term value creation rather than annual bonuses.

Samsung Electronics' FY2025 net income reached ₩45.2 trillion. The half-year 2026 statement shows operating income of ₩89.5 trillion against ₩57.2 trillion in the same period of 2025. Equity-based compensation creates accounting charges under IFRS and reduces reported earnings even as the company's actual cash outlay is deferred or shifted to share buybacks.
