S-Oil, KTNF, GST team up on AI data center cooling - report

S-Oil (KRX:010950), Korea server maker KTNF and cooling-systems specialist GST signed a partnership Wednesday to develop and commercialize liquid immersion cooling for AI data centres. The trio will field test the technology at KTNF's micro data centre and validate performance as GPU-intensive workloads raise thermal loads.

Immersion cooling submerges electronics directly in heat-conducting fluid, cutting energy use and enabling higher power density per rack. S-Oil brings specialty fluids; KTNF contributes server and systems integration; GST provides cooling hardware. Pilot testing starts immediately at KTNF facilities.

S-Oil's market capitalisation was ₩16.7 trillion at Thursday's close. First-half operating income of ₩2.196 trillion swung from a ₩365.5 billion loss a year earlier, though operating cash flow was negative ₩567.0 billion as inventories rose ₩2.4 trillion.

Data centre cooling is emerging as a cost driver for operators running AI accelerators at scale. Google, Meta and OpenAI are testing or deploying immersion systems. Korea's energy ministry has flagged data centre power consumption as a strategic planning constraint.
