Hankook Tire & Technology (KRX:161390) installed 5,069 kilowatts of solar capacity at its Geumsan plant warehouse and production buildings, the company said Wednesday. The self-consumption array will generate roughly 6.66 gigawatt-hours annually, cutting carbon emissions by 3,061 tonnes a year as the tyre maker adds manufacturing footprint in AI server demand.
The two rooftop installations cover warehouses handling raw materials and finished products. The original-equipment equipment plant at Geumsan opened in 2023 and now feeds growing domestic and export demand for data-centre-grade cooling systems alongside conventional tyre production.
Hankook Tire's market capitalisation was ₩8.2 trillion at Thursday's close. The company operates tyre plants at Geumsan and Icheon in Korea and manufacturing sites in Hungary, Indonesia, Thailand and the United States. Scope 3 carbon accounting drives tyre-industry investment in renewable power, as OEM contract tenders increasingly gate suppliers on emissions profiles.
