Orion (KRX:271560), Korea's largest snacks maker, launched a cheddar cheese-flavored variant of its core potato-chip product Wednesday as part of seasonal portfolio expansion. The new variant targets consumers seeking imported-style cheese flavors and marks Orion's 47th flavor variant across its chip portfolio since 2020.
Orion produces roughly 600 snack products, with potato chips representing the largest SKU category. Flavor rotation and seasonal variants drive repeat purchases and maintain shelf space in convenience stores, the primary distribution channel for Korean snacks.
Orion's market capitalisation was ₩5.1 trillion at Thursday's close. First-half 2026 revenue of ₩1.8 trillion reflected normal seasonal patterns and pricing. The snack category has seen modest volume declines offset by price increases as Korean households moderate consumption discretionary spending.
Global snack giants P&G, Mondelēz and PepsiCo have increased Korea operations and variant introductions, creating competition for shelf space and shoppers.
