Korean Air (KRX:003490) signed a comprehensive maintenance agreement with Thai military contractor TAI on 2 September to perform major overhauls and component repair on Thailand's fleet of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, marking the airline's entry into Southeast Asian military aircraft support.
The agreement covers factory maintenance and assembly work at Korean Air's technical center in Busan. Major overhauls of military aircraft require government-to-government approvals and lead to multi-year service contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars in repeat revenue.
Korean Air's market capitalisation was ₩10.7 trillion at Thursday's close. Aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) represents one-third of Korean Air's non-airline division revenue and has higher margins than commercial aviation segments. Southeast Asian military modernization cycles are creating demand for qualified maintenance partners who can meet security protocols.
