HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (329180) disclosed in a Monday filing that a worker was found collapsed and dead in a boiler machine room at a company building on August 28, the fourth serious-accident filing the shipbuilder has made since early July.
The filing lists the cause of death as undetermined and places the incident in the machine room of a facility called Hanuri Hall rather than production areas of the Ulsan yard. Police and labor ministry officials are still reviewing the case, and the filing says it remains unclear whether the incident legally qualifies as a "serious accident" under Korea's industrial safety law.
The Ulsan-Dongbu branch of the Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office separately ordered a partial work stoppage on August 30 covering all A-frame ladders in use at the company's sites, layered on top of gondola and assembly-line stoppage orders already in force from a spate of July incidents.
This is the fourth serious-accident filing HD Hyundai Heavy has made since July 10, after earlier incidents led the company to halt production company-wide, across operations covering 100% of its ₩17.58tn in FY2025 revenue, for four days in late July and early August.
HD Hyundai Heavy shares closed Monday at ₩449,500, near the low end of a 52-week range topping out at ₩745,000.
