Kia Corporation (000270) reported in a fair-disclosure filing Monday that it sold 266,675 vehicles worldwide in August 2026, up 5.0% from August 2025 but down 10.5% from July.
The filing carries no revenue or profit figures — it is a unit-volume release only. Domestic sales were the weak spot: 40,213 units, down 26.4% from July and 7.6% from a year earlier. Overseas sales held up better at 225,413 units, up 7.4% year over year despite falling 7.1% from July. A small specialty segment covering military and commercial specialty vehicles rose 93.9% year over year to 1,049 units.
Kia gave no explanation for the domestic drop, which follows what was typically a stronger July for the company. Year-to-date through August, cumulative global sales reached 2,196,123 units, up 4.4% from the same period in 2025.
At Kia's current market capitalization of KRW 51.22tn, August's global sales volume works out to roughly KRW 192m of market value per vehicle sold that month.
Kia (000270) said the figures are preliminary and may still be revised.
The company's next scheduled sales disclosure covers September 2026.
