Hanwha Ocean wins ₩1.55 trillion LNG container ship order from Yang Ming Marine

Hanwha Ocean has contracted with Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine Transportation to build six LNG-fuelled container ships for ₩1.55 trillion, according to Dailian on Thursday.

The ships are 13,650-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) capacity, each designed to carry both cargo containers and LNG fuel. Delivery is scheduled between H2 2029 and 2030. This contract follows a September 2025 order from the same customer for seven larger vessels, marking Yang Ming's second major tranch of new tonnage within a year.

LNG-powered container vessels lower emissions and positioning costs compared to traditional fuel-oil burning ships. The order reflects ongoing fleet renewal in container shipping as carriers respond to environmental regulations and seek efficiency gains.

The order equals 12.1% of Hanwha Ocean's FY2025 revenue. Hanwha Ocean's market capitalisation was ₩25.1 trillion as of September 2. The company reported FY2025 net income of ₩1.25 trillion on revenue of ₩12.8 trillion. Backlog visibility has strengthened Hanwha Ocean's valuation relative to domestic peers.
