Samsung Insurance eyes UK and US insurance stakes

Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and Samsung Life Insurance are considering buying stakes in Canopius, a London insurance company, and Principal Financial in the United States. This would be Samsung Insurance's first major overseas purchase in several years, reported Chosun Biz.

Canopius is a London-based specialty insurer that handles niche insurance segments. Principal Financial is a US insurance group that provides property-casualty, life, and retirement insurance across America. Samsung's interest shows how insurance companies worldwide are combining through buying stakes in each other.

Samsung wants to grow beyond Korea's domestic insurance market. The insurance business is consolidating globally as companies seek scale and international reach. Samsung Fire & Marine reported 2025 revenue of ₩13.5 trillion from its domestic operations.
