Samsung Heavy Industries (KRX:010140) will invest ₩86 billion to expand its marine research and development center in Busan, the company said Wednesday. The facility upgrade strengthens design and engineering capacity for offshore vessels and liquefied natural gas carriers as order backlogs stretch delivery schedules.
The Busan center expansion will add office and laboratory space for ocean engineering and ship design teams. Samsung Heavy's order book stood at roughly ₩35.9 trillion at the end of June, with 85% focused on LNG carriers and offshore floating production units.
The company's market capitalisation was ₩19.1 trillion at Thursday's close. Second-quarter revenue of ₩3.2 trillion carried operating margin of 10.1%, up from 9.4% in the first quarter. First-half operating income reached ₩598.1 billion against FY2025 full-year operating income of ₩862.2 billion.
Samsung Heavy set a 2026 order target of $13.9 billion, of which $8.2 billion is offshore facilities. New orders through July totalled about $10 billion against the year-end goal.
