Samsung Heavy Raises Samsung Electronics Fab Contract 51% to ₩639.9bn

Samsung Heavy is finishing interior work on Samsung Electronics' P4 Phase 2 fab building in Pyeongtaek. On August 31 it revised the contract price to 639.9 billion won. The old price was 423.7 billion won. That is a 51% increase. Samsung Electronics is the customer. It is also a related company of Samsung Heavy, so this counts as a related-party contract. Work began in July 2023. The contract runs through the end of 2027. The filing says the end date can still move with construction progress. This is at least the fourth revision to a contract first disclosed in December 2023. The filing does not say why the scope or price grew.

Samsung Heavy Wins ₩268bn Order For Two Tankers From A European Owner

Samsung Heavy signed a contract on 31 July 2026 to build two tankers for a European shipowner. The value is ₩268.0bn, which the filing translates from dollars at ₩1,441.1 to the dollar, so roughly $186m. That is 2.5% of FY2025 consolidated revenue of ₩10,650.0bn and about 1.4% of the market value. Delivery runs to 31 August 2029, and the company notes the end date moves with construction progress. Unlike the Pyeongtaek fab construction contract filed a month later, this one carries an advance payment, with the balance collected against build milestones. That is the normal shipbuilding pattern: the customer funds part of the hull before steel is cut, which is why Samsung Heavy's current liabilities are large relative to its assets.

010140 Company Profile

Samsung Heavy Industries builds ships and offshore production facilities at Geoje, on Korea's south coast. It is the smallest of Korea's three big yards by revenue but the most specialised: it has built more floating liquefied natural gas vessels than anyone, and offshore production units are a far larger share of its order book than at HD Korea Shipbuilding or Hanwha Ocean. Those units are effectively gas processing plants mounted on hulls, sold to oil majors and gas developers for a billion dollars or more each, and they are among the most technically demanding structures made anywhere. Alongside them it builds LNG carriers, container ships and tankers. Unlike its two domestic rivals it has no naval or defence business of consequence, so its fortunes track energy company capital spending rather than government budgets. For a US reader it is closest to a specialist offshore fabricator with a commercial shipyard attached.
