KIA CORPORATION (000270) led Korean electric vehicle sales with 96,429 units from January through August, Newsis reported Saturday. Tesla ranked second with 76,776 vehicles and a 28.7% share of the country's total electric vehicle market during that period.
Korea's electric vehicle sales reached 267,437 units through August, according to automaker data and the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association. Tesla's Model Y accounted for 61,702 units, while its Model 3 recorded another 11,085 vehicles in the local market.
Those two Tesla models made up 94.8% of its Korean sales and were all built at its Shanghai plant. The company's market capitalisation was ₩49.4 trillion at Friday's close.
